Dr. Rahgozar’s areas of expertise include aesthetic surgery of the face, nose, eyelids, breasts, abdomen, and extremities. He also regularly performs complex microsurgical breast reconstruction surgeries. Furthermore, he can treat simple and complex problems of the hands and wrist.

Education & Background

Dr. Rahgozar attended University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated summa cum laude with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics and a Minor in Spanish. He received his Doctorate in Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. He then began ten years of surgical training beginning at UCLA, where he completed a full training in General Surgery. He then spent a dedicated year of research investigating the immunogenicity of scaffolds for surgical implantation.

He subsequently underwent Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training at the University of Southern California, where he received broad training in aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, reconstructive surgery, and hand surgery. During this period, Dr. Rahgozar received mentoring from many well-known Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeons. He further pursued an additional year of fellowship training dedicated to hand surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Guiding a Future Generation of Surgeons

After completing his training, Dr. Rahgozar joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). At UCSF, he worked primarily at San Francisco General Hospital as well as at Oakland Children’s Hospital, treating and caring for patients in need of reconstruction, whether due to traumatic injury, cancer, or congenital differences. He also spent endless hours teaching and guiding the future generation of surgeons by working with the medical students and surgical residents at UCSF.

Dr. Rahgozar is one of the few surgeons in the Thousand Oaks area to earn board certification in three specialties from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). He possesses all of the following formal board certifications:

Contributions to the World of Medicine

Throughout his career, Dr. Rahgozar has authored over 30 publications contributing research and techniques to the top international Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery journals and textbooks. He was awarded the Linscheid-Dobyns Excellence in Wrist Research award by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand for his study on advanced wrist arthritis. He has also given over 50 lectures and poster presentations, including international lectures on limb salvage and reconstruction to surgeons all over the world. 

Dr. Rahgozar is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
